Delaware Orthophotography

There is currently no central location to obtain Delaware Orthophotography. However, depending on your situation, there are ways to at least access and obtain portions of the imagery.

For purposes of this page, we will divide years when orthophotography was flown in Delaware in the following categories:

• Modern imagery: 2007, 2006, 2002, 1997, 1992
• Historic imagery: 1977, 1968, 1961, 1954, 1937

Obtaining the Imagery

• If you work for or with a Delaware state/county/local government agency, contact the Delaware Office of State Planning Coordination. DE OSPC maintains copies of the modern imagery.
  
  
• If you are a University of Delaware faculty, staff, or student, contact Research and Data Management Services, Information Technologies. RDMS supports geospatial research and teaching at UD and can provide much of the Delaware modern and historic imagery for these purposes.
  
  
• RDMS also maintains the Delaware Orthophotography Index Viewer. This sites provides access to the modern imagery (1992, 1997, 2002) and also shows the tile indexing scheme used for delivering the 2002 and 2007 orthophotography.
  
  
• The Delaware DataMIL maintains all of the modern and historic imagery and make sthem available as ArcIMS image map services. DataMIL, in partnership with other state and UD organizations, is working on a solution to make this data available in additional formats.
  
  
• For the most recent data, 2007, the USGS will have that data available for viewing and download on their The National Map Seamless Server. Since USGS currently uses ArcIMS as the map server engine, you can probably connect directly to their services through ArcGIS Desktop as well as through WMS services. As of July 1, 2008, the Delaware 2007 orthophotography is NOT on the USGS site.
  
  
• For 1992 and 1997, data is available as 5-meter resampled quater-quads through the University of Delaware, College of Agriculture and Natural Resources Spatial Analysis Lab.
